Description: Drop by the lobby of the High Country Press office, enjoy a complimentary exhibit on Daniel Boone from the Appalachian Cultural Museum, get acquainted with Daniel Boone Days and buy tickets! It's all here, so start Daniel Boone Days early with us.
Sam Calhoun, Ken Ketchie and the rest of the Daniel Boone Days gang will be hanging out at the Daniel Boone Days Headquarters (High Country Press office) from 11:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 4, to explain Daniel Boone Days and sell tickets. A free exhibit on Daniel Boone care of the Appalachian Cultural Museum will be on display inside the office throughout July and August, as well as for the Daniel Boone Days Open House and Social. So come on by, buy some tickets and hang out with us!

Inaugural Daniel Boone Symposium

Description: Want to know about the real Daniel Boone and his connection to this region? Join best-selling author, professor and historian Robert Morgan (author of Gap Creek and Boone: A Biography) as he talks about everything Boone with regional experts. Do you know Boone?
From 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 5, Robert Morgan and other noted Daniel Boone experts will lecture on Daniel Boone and his connection to the High Country. After a short break, the symposium will reconvene from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. for an open house, where attendees can meet and talk with the experts.

Ticket Information: Tickets cost $2 per person and can be purchased throughout June, July and August at the High Country Press office at 130 N. Depot Street in downtown Boone from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, or at the door on the day of the event. Tickets are good for both the symposium and open house.


Fess Parker Wine Dinners

Description: Wine and dine in a log cabin; eat wild game entrees similar to what Boone would have eaten; and enjoy the wines of Fess Parker-television's Daniel Boone-at two of the High Country's finest restaurants.
The Fess Parker Wine Dinners are taking place at two locations-The Gamekeeper Restaurant, located at 3005 Shull's Mill Road in Boone, and Casa Rustica, located at 1348 Highway 105 in Boone. Patrons can choose which restaurant to eat at. Both restaurants are offering a three-course dinner to patrons, pairing it with the wines of Fess Parker-television's original Daniel Boone. Some special guests are also planning on attending, so buy tickets early!

Ticket Information: Ticket prices are not yet available. When tickets do become available, they will be available for purchase throughout June, July and August at the High Country Press office at 130 N. Depot Street in downtown Boone from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Both dinners are a limited seating, so purchase tickets early.

Saturday, September 6th

Daniel Boone Chase

Time: 6:30 to 7:15 a.m. late registration / 8:00 a.m. race start
Location: Downtown Boone to Howard's Knob
Cost: $20 per person
Description: Three running races in one! Three winners? Maybe one? It's a race like no other as racers chase each other around the block, then ascend Howard's Knob and finally return to the High Country Press office. Three Boone Chase champions will be crowned. Can you beat Boone?
Racers can register at anytime throughout June, July and August at the High Country Press office at 130 N. Depot Street in downtown Boone from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, or on the day of the race from 6:30 to 7:15 a.m.
The race starts at 8:00 a.m. with one lap around a downtown Boone block and then continues to the pinnacle of Howard's Knob via Junaluska Road and then ends as racers come back down the mountain to finish at the High Country Press office. Although the race won't stop at any point, three winners will be crowned-the first to complete the lap around the block, the first to reach the top of Howard's Knob and the first to reach the finish line at High Country Press. Form a team to try and win all three or go for it solo. Can you beat Boone?

Daniel Boone Cap World Record Attempt

Cost: $10 Daniel Boone Cap from Mast General Store (a portion of the proceeds supports the Watauga Education Foundation)
Description: Everybody is invited to take part in a World Record setting event in downtown Boone, but first you need your cap! High Country Press has arranged for a new record to be set in the Book of World Records-the most people wearing a Daniel Boone Cap (coonskin cap) at one time!
To take part in the attempt, purchase a Daniel Boone Cap from Mast General Store for $10 and show up at the High Country Press office with your cap between 7:00 and 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 6, to register. Registration is free with the purchase of a cap and a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the caps goes to support the Watauga Education Foundation. A group picture will take place at 11:00 a.m. in the High Country Press parking lot. The picture will be shot from the top of the building looking down on the sea of people wearing Daniel Boone Caps and hopefully-if enough people show up-we'll set a new record for the most people wearing Daniel Boone Caps at one time!

Ticket Information: To take part in the attempt, purchase a Daniel Boone Cap from Mast General Store for $10 and show up at the High Country Press office with your cap between 7:00 and 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 6, to register. The group picture takes place at 11:00 a.m. in the High Country Press parking lot off Depot Street in downtown Boone.


Pioneer Festival at the Horn

Description: The Pioneer Festival at the Horn is the pinnacle of the inaugural Daniel Boone Days and is meant to spotlight Horn in the West and the High Country community.
The festival takes place from noon to 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 6, at Horn in the West in the middle of downtown Boone. Regional arts and crafts vendors will have booths setup from 1:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the festival. The entertainment kicks-off at 1:00 p.m. with a square dance until 2:00 p.m. and then continues with a Daniel Boone Plott Hound presentation from 2:15 to 2:45 p.m.
From 3:00 to 4:00 p.m., the Watauga County Arts Council is hosting its Fiddlers' Convention Finals, including the finals of the junior division.
At 4:30 p.m., Boone's Lost Ridge Band takes the stage, followed by a Daniel Boone Look-Alike Contest from 5:45 to 6:30 p.m. Anyone is eligible to enter the Daniel Boone Look-Alike Contest-just show up at the event dressed in your best Boone garb!
After the contest from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., regional favorites Larry Keel and Natural Bridge take to the stage.
The festival comes to a roaring close with California-based and MerleFest standouts The Waybacks from 9:15 to 11:00 p.m.
Don't miss this soon-to-be-annual event!
Additional parking for this event is available at the Boone Mall, less than one mile away from Horn in the West. A free AppalCART shuttle will take festival-goers to the event and back to their cars.

Ticket Information: Tickets cost $10 in advance and $12 at the door on the day of the event. Advance tickets can be purchased throughout June, July and August at the High Country Press office at 130 N. Depot Street in downtown Boone from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
